What Are PDF Layers (OCG)?
Optional Content Groups (OCG) are the technical name for layers in a PDF. They let a single document carry several sets of content that can be shown or hidden — for example different languages, drawing versions, or annotation levels in maps and CAD files. This tool reads the layer configuration of your PDF and lets you change the default visibility of each layer, rename layers, add new ones, and delete unused ones. The content of the layers themselves is preserved; only the visibility settings are updated. The result is a new PDF that opens with the layers in the state you chose. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your documents stay private.
How to Manage PDF Layers
Managing layers takes just a few steps. Everything runs in your browser.
Upload the PDF
Drag and drop a PDF or click the upload area. Its layers are loaded automatically.
Adjust the layers
Click the eye to show or hide a layer, use the edit icon to rename it, or the trash icon to delete it.
Add new layers (optional)
Enter a name in the Add New Layer field and click Add to create a new layer.
Download the result
Each change updates the document; click Download to save the PDF with the new layer settings.
Good to Know
Only the layer configuration is changed — the content of each layer is preserved. Hiding a layer sets it off by default; viewers can still turn it back on. Not every PDF has layers; documents without OCG show an empty layer list. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before managing layers.
