About Word Count & Readability

Word Count & Readability is a fast, private text analyzer for writers, students, and editors. Paste any text and instantly see how long it is in characters (with and without spaces), words, sentences, paragraphs, and lines, plus an estimated page count. The readability panel scores your text with the Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level formulas and explains what each score means, while reading and speaking time estimates help you pace blog posts, scripts, and speeches. Because every calculation runs locally in your browser, your text is never uploaded and there is no sign-up.

Things to note

Word counting treats each CJK character (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) as one word and splits Latin text on spaces, so mixed-language text is counted sensibly. Page count assumes about 500 words per page; reading time uses about 200 words per minute and speaking time about 130. The Flesch formulas are designed for English and are only indicative for other languages, and abbreviations such as "Dr." can nudge the sentence count. You can open .docx, .doc, .rtf, .odt, .txt, and .md files, and legacy .doc files are converted to .docx in your browser with a lightweight office engine — this needs cross-origin isolation, so open the page on http://localhost. Text is capped at 500,000 characters. Everything stays in your browser.
